FYI, this story is more than a year old

The Inland Revenue Department has announced a new group to represent the ICT sector and it’s said this will help to transform New Zealand’s tax system.

The new Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Reference Group will be made up of seven people from a variety of backgrounds.

Myles Ward, Chief Technology Officer at Inland Revenue Department will chair the group alongside Greg James, the department’s Deputy Commissioner of Change.

“Those selected are all highly experienced in their fields and will offer other perspectives which will help us identify innovative ways to continue delivering improved and easy to use ICT services,” Ward says.

He says the group provides a wealth of knowledge to advise Inland Revenue Department in a number of areas, ensuring technology is used effectively and can simplify processes such as paying tax and receiving entitlements.

“Inland Revenue is confident the group’s members are a good representation of New Zealand’s ICT sector and will be an excellent sounding board as we modernise every aspect of our tax system from business processes to customer services,” Ward says.

The selection process was extensive and the final team members were selected for their individual skills and what they could contribute to the group.

“We had an excellent response from applicants and the final members being with them extensive ICT and business experience including knowledge about transformation programmes, banking, digital and customer services,” says Ward.

The new group will meet every quarter, with their first meeting this month.
