Trend Micro and Microsoft unite to drive Azure security...
Thu, 15th May 2014
FYI, this story is more than a year old

With businesses increasingly turning to the cloud for speed and flexibility, Trend Micro has announced an expanded strategic relationship with Microsoft to provide organisations with additional security for the Microsoft Cloud.

This arrangement will help Microsoft users fulfill their security obligations for applications such as SharePoint and platforms including Microsoft Azure and Windows Server 2012.

While Microsoft will continue to provide a secure infrastructure, Trend Micro says it will deliver capabilities for securing cloud and hybrid architectures, offering centralised management and comprehensive protection for data, applications and operating systems.

“The ability to leverage the scale and agility of the cloud is critical for organisations of all sizes, but valuable information must remain secured,” says Bill McGee, senior vice president and general manager, cloud and data center security, Trend Micro.

“To keep productivity and user satisfaction high, security needs to be reliable and convenient.

"To that end, Trend Micro is leading the way in providing comprehensive security solutions as cloud and virtualisation adoption surges.”

“Working with Microsoft allows us to reach a broad customer base that can benefit from the advancements we have made in these areas.

"This is the beginning of a variety of initiatives where we will align with Microsoft to ensure use of cloud computing services can continue to accelerate and be protected to the same level, or better, than when the services were deployed internally."

At this year’s TechEd North America, Trend Micro will showcase new security features for its Deep Security, SecureCloud and PortalProtect products in support of Microsoft technology, including:

Microsoft Azure:

Trend Micro Deep Security and SecureCloud can be used by organisations to provide threat and data protection security controls for virtual machines deployed within Microsoft Azure.

These security controls include anti-malware, intrusion detection and prevention, and encryption, combined with centralised, automated policy management.

Microsoft SharePoint:

As organisations transition from on-premise to Microsoft Cloud solutions, Trend Micro PortalProtect delivers data protection across SharePoint workloads in Microsoft Azure.

Microsoft Agent Extension:

Deep Security can be chosen as a security extension when configuring a virtual machine within Microsoft Azure.

In addition, Powershell Extensions can be used to streamline provisioning of Trend Micro Deep Security, SecureCloud and Portal Protect for Microsoft Azure virtual machines and SharePoint workloads.

“As we broaden the scope of our cloud and virtual solutions, we know that security will continue to play a primary role to meet our customers’ needs,” adds Corey Sanders, Principal Group Program Manager, Microsoft Azure.

“That’s why working with Trend Micro is so important to our overall approach.

"The company has consistently demonstrated expertise and commitment to delivering innovative security solutions to help customers securely achieve the full potential of the cloud. We look forward to continuing our work with Trend Micro in the future.”
