Wynyard tech supports NZ's first sex offender register

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Wynyard Group will deliver a specialist configuration of Wynyard technology already in use by New Zealand Police to support the country’s first sex offender register, the Child Protection Offender Register (CPOR).

The Register, a cross-agency initiative to keep communities safe, will be managed by New Zealand Police.

The CPOR will enable agencies to gather and continually update the personal information of convicted sex offenders, which can then be assessed and analysed to determine if reoffending is likely to take place.

Wynyard Managing Director Craig Richardson says the New Zealand CPOR technology model, designed in partnership with New Zealand Police, will be highly advanced and will lead the way in the protection of vulnerable children.

“The New Zealand Police are renowned globally for breaking new ground in the prevention of crime and front-line use of technology," he says.

"They have carefully studied models and experiences in other countries and adopted a world-leading technology model for the Child Protection Offender Register in New Zealand. It’s something Wynyard is very proud to support.”

Wynyard’s advanced crime analytics platform is now widely recognised as a market leader in combining intelligence and investigation case management capabilities to more effectively control the criminal environment by helping prevent and solve crime.

“Crime is preventable but front line agents need to be able to monitor potential offenders, protect potential victims and control the criminal environment," Richardson adds.

"This is challenging, if not impossible, without advanced technology capable of providing a complete picture of a person of interest.

"Wynyard technology helps provide this more complete picture."

The Child Protection Offender Register is expected to be fully operational by 2016, once enabling legislation is passed.

Wynyard previously disclosed the value of Wynyard CPOR software licences and services at $2.5 million in a notice to the NZX on 2 July 2014.
