McAfee denied Guatemala asylum
Fri, 7th Dec 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

John McAfee has been refused political asylum in Guatemala and could be deported back to Belize to face questioning over the murder of his neighbour Gregory Faull.

After being on the run for nearly a month, the McAfee founder entered the Central American country earlier this week in a bid to evade police.

But Guatemala officials look set to refuse his bid for refuge, instead sending him back to Belize despite his online efforts to persuade the government for sympathy.

Titled "Urgent from John", a fresh blog post was updated on Thursday asking supporting to "Please email the President of Guatemala and beg him to allow the court system to proceed, to determine my status in Guatemala."

McAfee was arrested on Wednesday after illegally entering the country, accompanied by his 20-year-old girlfriend and two writers from Vice magazine.

Upon his arrest he is alleged to have turned to cameras and said "Guatemala jails have beds, dude. And food. That's pretty awesome."

Updating his blog from his prison cell, McAfee has denied claims he is considering suicide, posting:

“I enjoy living, and suicide is absurdly redundant. The world, from the very begining, hurls viruses, accidents, hungry animals, defective DNA — and uncountable more — in an attempt to kill us. It always succeeds. Suicide is simply aiding and abetting.”

McAfee is wanted by officials in Belize after being identified as a ‘person of interest’ following the murder of Florida businessman Gregory Faull.

He denies murder.
