FYI, this story is more than a year old

IT management software provider SolarWinds has announced a User Device Tracker (UDT) to help IT professional identify the current - and past - location of a network device.

UDT can locate a device and retrieve the switch name, port, port description, VLAN, and has the ability to send notifications when specific devices connect to the network.

"UDT delivers the device-tracking and forensic history of an expensive switch port-tracking appliance at a much lower price point,” said Sanjay Castelino, SolarWinds' VP product marketing and managment.

"It also analyses switch capacity, helping IT staff reclaim ports that are not being used and balance utilisation among switches.”

The UDT is available as a standalone product or combined with other SolarWinds offerings.
