Popular messaging app WhatsApp has been updated on iOS with several new features released.

The new version 2.12.5 includes the ability for users to include videos in chat backups and allows users to mark chats as unread or read with a swipe to the right.

The updated version enables users to customise notifications for individual chats, as well as the ability to mute. Earlier messages will load automatically for users when scrolling through chats.

Users will be able to directly share contacts from the Contacts app and locations from Apple Maps to WhatsApp. Location message will now use a large map thumbnail.

The update includes better support for VoiceOver, and users will be able to lower the data usage used during WhatsApp calls in the Settings menu.

The update also includes improved design for cropping photos and videos within the app.

The new features are rolling out to iOS only at this point, and there is no word on when these features will become available on Android.

WhatsApp Messenger is one of the most popular cross-platform chatting service that is used across the world. WhatsApp Calling uses an Internet connection (VoIP) rather than cellular phone service to make calls.
