FYI, this story is more than a year old

Datacom is expecting to employ an additional 100 staff in the coming 12 months, following the opening this week of its third Victorian office.

The new South Melbourne office adds to a growing network of offices for the Kiwi IT services company, which has offices across New Zealand and Australia as well as in Malaysia and the Philippines.

Jonathan Ladd, Datacom Group chief executive, says Victoria - which has a tech industry generating more than AU$34 billion per annum and employing more than 91,300 people - is a ‘thriving' part of Datacom's business.

Datacom says the new office will employ an additional 100 staff, covering software solutions and app development, cloud consulting and professional services.

Scott Green, Datacom Systems Victoria director, attributes Datacom's success in Victoria ‘in no small part' to Datacom's team.

“We will continue to grow by focusing on the state government sector and across the banking and financial services industries, health, transport and logistics,” Green says.

The company was established in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1965, and now employees more than 4000 staff across its 27 offices.

The new offices were opened by Hon Philip Dalidakis, Victoria's Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade.

“The opening of Datacom Systems' new South Melbourne office comes hot on the heels of a host of major investments by Australian and global tech companies that are boosting Victoria's reputation as the number one tech destination in the Asia Pacific region,” Dalidakis says.

Adds Ladd: “[We] are proud to be working with the Victorian government and local business to help create jobs by transforming local business through the power of IT.

“We think globally, and work locally to help produce an innovation economy in Victoria and across Australia.
