Adobe's new editing app gives users the spark they need
Wed, 10th Aug 2016
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Long gone are the days when large computer setups and a computer design team were needed to customise the look of their website or social media post. Instead, anyone can be a creator. The team at Adobe has released a series of apps that grant users the skill sets of a seasoned content creator. And all of this can be done in the palm of their hand.

While Adobe is already known for its professional software that offers pro-level creation tools for users, the introduction of Spark Post, Spark Video, and Spark Page are geared towards users who are not software engineers or computer design artists and may not have the devices to achieve such a look. Instead, the app allows for every folk with a vision to bring their digital creations to life.

This review will discuss Adobe Post.

Formerly known as Adobe Post, Spark Post allows users to use the given templates and manipulate the configurations to their liking and post to their social media.

When you open the app, there are several categories listed depending on the nature of the post: Seasonal, Craft, Business, Travel, Food and Lifestyle. Below the categories are several featured posts that users can choose to begin editing. Immediately, the users is drawn to the ease of choosing a format and beginning the editing process. It is as easy as editing an Instagram post, but with a lot more creative freedom and control.

The user is not limited to only choosing filters and basic photo editing options. To begin with, the width and height of images can be altered depending on the social media application that it will be published on, whether that be Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. Once a photo arrangement is chosen, the user is able to begin the editing process by clicking “remix”. Next, users are given a myriad of text fonts and colour schemes to arrange the text size and placement. At this point of the remix process, the user can change the filter of the background photo that comes with that template or add their own photo from the photo stream on their own phone.

Spark Post was made to be comfortable for the user to use on a small screen and it shows. Not only does the user have creative freedom by keeping as much or as little of the original template depending on their desires, but the process seamlessly navigates each step. It is fluid and effortless. This gives the novice user or trained designer a smooth creative experience.

Once the creator is satisfied with the aesthetic of their post, they can easily share it with the world on any one of the social media outlets that are offered.

Sadly, Android devices get no love from Adobe as the apps are only available to iOS devices. All three apps in the Spark series are free. While the posts contain a #AdobeSpark at the bottom, perhaps it is the concession a user has to make in order to produce content that just sparks.
