FYI, this story is more than a year old

Publishers Tru Blu Entertainment have announced the New Zealand release date for All Blacks' Rugby Challenge. The game will be released on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC on September 2.

The Aussies will have to wait until September 8 for their version, which will be known as Wallabies Rugby Challenge. The game will also be available for purchase via the Steam digital distribution service for PC.

"The anticipation for Rugby Challenge has reached fever pitch, and we are excited to finally announce a release date,” says Sebastian Giompaolo, managing director for Tru Blu Entertainment.

"We look forward to delivering the game into the hands of eager fans across all major markets”.

The Kiwi-developed game is already gaining international acclaim, with UK gaming veterans Computer and Video Games declaring Rugby Challenge to be ‘exactly what rugby fans have been waiting for'. Outside of Australasia, the game is branded as Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge, which makes it a great ambassador for New Zealand Rugby.

The game comes packed with all the features that sports gamers should expect.  Players can slip into a quick single match, get some mates around and the beers in to enjoy the competition mode, or burn the midnight oil in multi-year career mode. Those new to rugby union can use the extensive help and tutorial mode options to get up to speed in time for the Rugby World Cup.

96 teams are available for selection, and 31 stadia. Tru Blu have secured official team and competition licenses for the All Blacks, the Qantas Wallabies, the USA Eagles, Bledisloe Cup, AU/NZ Super Rugby, Aviva Premiership Rugby, TOP 14 Orange, RaboDirect PRO12, ITM Cup, and Ranfurly Shield.

Wellington-based developers, Sidhe, have promised to deliver a slick TV-style presentation that delivers a proper on-field rugby experience complete with enhanced replays. Adding to the authentic rugby experience, real-time commentary is provided by seasoned rugby commentator Grant Nisbett and former All Blacks halfback Justin Marshall.

The game can also be taken online, allowing players to enjoy the game with groups of friends in online multiplayer, supporting up to 4v4 though the PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE or Steam.

All Blacks' Rugby Challenge will allow us all to start the Rugby World Cup celebrations early.

Update: Sidhe have advised us that Gamewizz have moved the release of All Blacks' Rugby Challenge forward to Friday at 2pm.
