BlackBerry enhances Microsoft 365 cybersecurity integration

By Shannon Williams
Mon 13 Sep 2021

BlackBerry has enhanced the integration of BlackBerry Unified Endpoint Manager (UEM) and Microsoft 365, so enterprises can benefit from BlackBerry's expertise in security while using Microsoft's productivity products.

The announcement means BlackBerry UEM and Microsoft 365 customers can now enjoy a BlackBerry secure version of modern authentication in the cloud, in addition to on-premises environments. Furthermore, the integration between BlackBerry UEM and Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) has been enhanced to provide secure authentication and conditional access.

"BlackBerry UEM enables organisations and end users to be productive from anywhere, securely," says.

"The past eighteen months have emphasised the uncompromisable need for security and productivity to go hand-in-hand," says Billy Ho, executive vice president of spark product engineering at BlackBerry.

"Enterprises around the world use both BlackBerry UEM and Microsoft 365 every day, and we are pleased to enable them to protect their data and empower their workforce through these integrations," he says.

Wangui McKelvey, general manager, Microsoft 365 at Microsoft, says digital technologies are presenting enterprises with new ways of doing business.

"Our customers choose Microsoft 365 for productivity and collaboration tools that deliver high productivity," he says.

"Together with BlackBerry, we will take this to the next level and provide enterprises with the standard for secure productivity."

BlackBerry provides intelligent security software and services to enterprises and governments around the world. The company secures more than 500 million endpoints including more than 195 million vehicles.

Based in Waterloo, Ontario, the company leverages artificial intelligence and machine learning to deliver innovative solutions in the areas of cybersecurity, safety and data privacy solutions, and is a leader in the areas of endpoint security, endpoint management, encryption, and embedded systems.

The company also recently announced the integration of its critical event management platform, BlackBerry AtHoc, with Microsoft Teams.

As the newly remote workforce adopts productivity tools to get work done and stay connected during the coronavirus pandemic, organisations need to establish IT and security rules for extended virtual working, the company says.

"Integrating BlackBerry AtHoc will ensure that any organisation managing critical events using Teams is able to contact, alert, and account for everyone within the organisation directly through the Teams platform should an incident transpire," it says.

BlackBerry AtHoc allows organisations to safely and securely communicate with their workforce and other organisations through any device. BlackBerry AtHoc leverages the power of mobility, hybrid cloud, and the IP network to deliver a unified and secure end-to-end solution capable of real-time collaboration, keeping critical business operations running.
