Cohesity has launched the new Helios Mobile app designed to help IT staff with data management, whether in the data center, in the cloud or at the edge.
More specifically, the app enables staff to monitor Cohesity infrastructure, including managing support cases and receiving alerts about anomalies or potential attacks.
It can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play and used via smartphones. As such, data can be managed remotely.
According to Cohesity, when it comes to protecting against ransomware attacks in the IT production environment, the app leverages machine learning based anomaly detection that is built into the Helios SaaS solution.
Helios triggers an alert when the primary data-change rate is uncommon, indicating potential data encryption activity.
Anomalies will be detected based on matching any significant data changes against the normal patterns, including daily change rate on logical data, daily change rate on stored data, historical data ingest rate, and entropy (randomness of data), Cohesity states.
Other measures Cohesity has put in place to mitigate ransomware attacks include backup data with snapshot immutability to prevent a gold copy of data from being modified by any application or individual, as well as DataLock (WORM) and multi-factor authentication.
In addition, in the event that an attack successfully impacts production data, organisations can reduce downtime by restoring at scale.
Beyond data protection, via a management portal with dedicated menus customers can manage all clusters, including checking on the overall health of the cluster and seeing available storage.
When it comes to the clusters, customers can see the list of those registered and details including software version, storage, throughput, and input/output operations per second (IOPS).
Also via the dashboard, users can review all active alerts from the last 24 hours, review how clusters are performing or check the status of a job.
