D-Link launches 4G LTE industrial modem for remote operations

Fri, 21st Nov 2025

D-Link has introduced a new industrial modem aimed at businesses managing remote operations. The DWM-311 4G LTE M2M VPN Modem is designed to provide stable and secure connectivity in environments where conventional networking equipment is not suitable.

Industrial focus

The modem supports Cat.4 4G LTE mobile broadband alongside a Gigabit Ethernet port, targeting use cases such as industrial monitoring, vending machines, and remote infrastructure management. Its casing is made from corrosion-resistant zinc-plated steel. The device is capable of functioning in a wide range of temperatures and humidity, which makes it suitable for deployment outdoors and in tough industrial sites.

According to the company, the product is intended for mission-critical scenarios, connecting remote M2M (machine-to-machine) devices to mobile networks. The modem can be put into operation by simply inserting a Micro-SIM card and powering the unit, connecting equipment to the 4G network without complex setup.

Security measures

The DWM-311 includes an integrated OpenVPN client to secure communications. This feature is intended to safeguard sensitive operational data as it moves between machines and central management platforms, addressing concerns over unauthorised network access. A plug-and-play setup aims to facilitate deployment, especially in locations where on-site IT presence is limited.

Remote management

The device is compatible with the D-Link Edge Cloud Solution (D-ECS), a centralised management platform that provides network monitoring, automated alerts, and remote configuration. Features include status monitoring, routine maintenance scheduling, data traffic reporting, and built-in diagnostic tools. The D-ECS system also supports role-based access controls and multi-tenant management, designed for organisations managing multiple device fleets or client operations.

These capabilities are expected to allow IT administrators to receive alerts and respond to failures before they disrupt operations. Automation tools assist in regular network upkeep and data analysis tasks, potentially cutting the need for direct on-site intervention.

Application areas

The modem's automation and management features are aimed at industries where real-time oversight of dispersed assets is critical. Sectors such as vending operations, infrastructure, and utility management may benefit from continual device connectivity. By securing connections and automating network operations, organisations are positioned to reduce operational costs linked to maintenance visits and manual monitoring.

"As industrial IoT deployments continue to grow, reliable and secure connectivity in challenging environments is no longer optional - it's essential," said Graeme Reardon, Managing Director, D-Link A/NZ. "The DWM-311 delivers industrial-grade performance with plug-and-play simplicity, enabling businesses to deploy M2M solutions with confidence knowing their critical infrastructure will remain connected and secure."
