Facebook's Zuck earns a buck...
Wed, 2nd Apr 2014
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Based on yearly salary, it seems that Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg earned a solitary dollar in 2013, according to a regulatory filing released this week.

It appears that in Silicon Valley earning a 'token salary' shows that you have made it. Other $1 a year salary men included Apple's Steve Jobs and Google duo Sergey Brin and Larry Page.

Zuckerberg is in a similar position as other names on the illustrious list - as he owns substantial shares in his own company, a salary becomes pretty much irrelevant. Although in 2012 he did earn US$503,205 for his efforts.

Zuckerberg made $653,165 last year versus almost $2 million in 2012. This money went towards private planes and his security program.

This does not indicate a decline for 29 year-old Zuckerberg, as his wealth is estimated at $27 billion.

He also has 61.6% of voting power in Facebook, giving him the ability to forge ahead with deals such as the $19 billion pending WhatsApp acquisition and the $2 billion proposed takeover of Oculus.

Elsewhere, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg made $16.2 million last year compared to $26.2 million in 2012. Facebook CFO David Ebersman earned $10.5 million, VP David Fischer made $8 million and CTO Mike Schroepfer earned $12.6 million.
