HDS focuses on government with new appointment
Mon, 6th Feb 2017
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Hitachi Data Systems is putting the focus on the government sector with a new appointment – and snapping up a second former HPE staffer in a week in the process.

The vendor has appointed Tony Whigham as Australia and New Zealand government sales director, charged with growing HDS' business in strategic federal and state government accounts and developing new areas of collaboration with Hitachi social innovation solutions.

Whigham who was previously director for Federal Government at Aruba – now owned by Hewlett Packard Enterprise – says government agencies in Australia and New Zealand have been quick to realise the benefits of delivering services digitally.

“But with some of the region's largest data centers and IT legacy systems, the public sector also faces unique challenges due to the size and complexity of digital transformation projects,” he says.

Nathan McGregor, Hitachi Data Systems vice president and general manager for Australia and New Zealand, adds that government agencies are facing unique challenges and opportunities around digital transformation.

Whigham has been involved in the Canberra IT market for more than 25 years, including holding senior leadership positions with Dimension Data, Teradata and Optus.

Says McGregor: “Tony brings a wealth of relevant experience to the role to guide departments through the digital transition process, with the aim to deliver even better services to citizens.

“He is also passionate about educating the market on the possibilities for enhanced public safety, innovation and collaboration that arise fro the internet of things.

Last week the vendor announced it had appointed Paul Shaw, former Hewlett Packard Enterprise Australia and New Zealand general manager of storage, as its northern region sales manager, as HDS seeks to maximise its IoT opportunity in Australia.
