So what did we get from the CES show?
Mon, 14th Jan 2013
FYI, this story is more than a year old

So what did we get from CES for 2013? Lots of new words in my opinion.

I became accustomed to Phablets (Phone –Tablets ) and PWBS (phones with big screens ), 4K –Ultra- HD TV), OLED TV (Curved Screen TV) and Qi (Wireless Power Charging).

And sorry darling but I need an even bigger screen with Ultra-HD TV 84 inches please.

But ok let's get into some of the cool stuff.

File server:

There was a nice little unit from Kanex on display in the form of the Kanex meDrive, which is a file server for iOS devices, adding that extra storage you always needed.

Remote controls:

Across to the remote control world and Logitech has been making remote control devices for a while now, although I can't recall the model of the last one.

But nonetheless I had it and it was great until the LCD stopped working and I was too tight to buy another one.

The Harmony Touch looks even better but I just hope it arrives in New Zealand soon.

NVidia Shield could also be interesting as it also works as a controller for your PC, and it would be great if they made it compatible with Xbox (it has the Xbox controller layout) and PlayStation. Plus it also plays Android games too.

Power:

I need Power. Now if you're like and spend a lot of your day on the road you will appreciate it is fine when you can charge all your devices in your car.

But when I don't have that luxury, I also have a Mophie Juice pack. That said, this one from Nectar Power looks very handy as they claim two weeks of mobile power.

Wireless:

TDK has this nice little speaker unit with Wireless inductive charging (Qi) in the form of The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), which at least has a Global standard.

Fulton Innovation also has some great technology if vendors want take it up. The highlight comes from the ability to take power from your tablet or phone and thus share power between devices wirelessly, which will be pretty handy when you are running low.

But I don't expect to see this on my new iPhone 6 or iPad 5 anytime soon, however maybe Apple will surprise me with NFC (Near field communication).

TV:

LG and Samsung unsurprisingly revealed something new at the event, but will it catch on just like everyone now has a 3D TV - I'm not sure.

Both have an OLED TV with a Curved Screen of 5 degrees because as you already know we have phenomenon in human perception where some images seem to drop off or degrade towards the edges of a flat screen. Now I know about this phenomenon and I will notice it all the time.

Unfortunately I won't get into all the new accessories that will be available in the coming month's but I'm sure some will be cool and some will be the usual gimmicky ones that we all love to buy.

If you want to see just how big the show is check this out, the CES Preshow behind the Scenes Walkthrough.

This is just a little insight into what 150,000 people will be viewing live at the show, but I am glad I did not have to fly 14 hours into winter to see it for myself. But I will get there one day.
