Spark Digital inks first Kiwi commercial Galaxy S7 deal for Samsung

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Spark Digital has made the first commercial sale of Samsung Electronics' new flagship Galaxy S7 smartphone placing an order for 1600 of the devices for engineering consultancy firm Opus International Consultants.

The device goes on sale globally today, with Vernon Kelliher, Samsung New Zealand strategic business director, saying the Opus deal ‘confirms the confidence' Samsung has in the phone as ‘the most complete, secure and durable device for enterprise we've ever produced'.

David Prentice, Opus chief executive (pictured), says New Zealand staff members from senior leaders to graduate engineers, will be issued a Galaxy S7 as part of a fleet upgrade as it is of ‘utmost importance' for staff to have the best mobile solution in the market in order to meet the needs of the business.

“We are a highly-mobile business with a large proportion of our people moving between offices and field locations, and the S7 will help in our drive to be as efficient as we can no matter where our people are physically working,” Prentice says.

He says the dust and water resistant feature of the S7 played an important part of the decision to opt for the devices as the Opus team works on ‘dynamic and challenging' projects including water supply, energy, transport, telecommunications and buildings.

The significantly reduced total cost of device ownership that Samsung and Spark achieved for Opus was also a key factor, Prentice says.

Kelliher says the Opus team will be one of the first companies in the world to experience the S7 as a business device.

“We are incredibly proud that one of our first enterprise success stories for our 2016 flagship device will be generated from New Zealand, and we hope that this partnership will pave the way for businesses across Samsung's global network,” Kelliher says.
