Generative AI services underwent significant evolution in 2023, but according to Adonis Celestine, the Automation Practice Leader at Applause, the sector can anticipate far greater accountability from providers in 2024. This expected shift towards accountability could stimulate widespread adoption by mitigating any legal implications associated with the use of their data.
"Undoubtedly, 2023 was a rollercoaster of a year for generative AI services," says Celestine. "One notable problem has been the data privacy, compliance and copyright infringement issues that call into question the data sets being used to train the algorithms of LLMs like ChatGPT and Bard." However, he predicts that as AI companies take full responsibility for the data their large language models (LLMs) utilise, this will ease concerns and foster more widespread adoption.
Moreover, Celestine anticipates "Democratic AI", where the availability and accessibility of AI technologies are broadened, will become increasingly prevalent in 2024. The idea is to remove barriers associated with cost, technical expertise, and limited access to resources. "Next year, there will be more conversations about how 'Democratic AI' can be achieved through the development of user-friendly tools, open-source platforms, and simplified interfaces," he said.
The concept of benchmarking generative AI is also likely to take off in 2024. According to Celestine, this would involve testing the 'intelligence' levels of AI models in order to determine their suitability for specific apps and services. "Testing the IQ of an AI will become an essential part of the adoption process for brands planning to roll out generative AI (e.g., Chat-GPT, Llama 2) powered applications and services," he explains.
With Edge computing poised to become a $300bn industry by 2026, Celestine suggests generative AI will significantly boost this growth. This technology is anticipated to be instrumental in the development of use cases for Edge computing and the Internet of Things (IoT). He predicts that "Generative AI will help to spur that growth over the next 12 months as it contributes to the number of new edge computing and IoT use cases."
Thus, in his forecast, Celestine envisions 2024 to be the year when AI providers increase accountability, benchmarking of generative AI becomes crucial for brands, 'Democratic AI' flourishes and Edge AI makes a significant impact in fields like healthcare and automotive. These technological advancements are likely to play a key role in facilitating the ongoing progression and widespread adoption of AI technologies.
