2degrees selling in Whitcoulls

Mon, 12th Apr 2010
FYI, this story is more than a year old

2degrees has extended its distribution network and is now selling SIM cards and top up vouchers in 75 Whitcoulls and Bennetts stores nationwide.

The deal with REDgroup retail, which operate the bookstores in New Zealand, adds to 2degrees' existing network which includes 2,7000 outlets selling SIM cards, 6,000 outlets selling top-up vouchers and 400 outlets selling 2degrees handsets.

2degrees have eschewed the traditional model adopted by rivals Vodafone and Telecom of opening large retail stores in shopping malls and main streets. Instead it distribute its pre-pay products through existing retailers such as service stations and supermarkets, as well as retail chains such as Warehouse and Dick Smith Electronics.

It’s a strategy that appears to be paying off - in February 2degrees CEO Eric Hertz announced the company had acquired 206,000 customers in its first six months of operation.
