Adyen debuts Tap to Pay on iPhone for NZ retailers

Today

Adyen has introduced Tap to Pay on iPhone to retailers in New Zealand in collaboration with NewStore.

The technology allows businesses, such as Lorna Jane and R.M.Williams, to accept contactless payments using just an iPhone and a relevant iOS app, without the need for additional hardware or payment terminals. This setup supports payments from contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets.

The payment process works by prompting customers to hold their contactless payment method near the merchant's iPhone to complete the transaction securely using NFC technology.

The use of Apple's Tap to Pay on iPhone ensures business and customer data remain private and secure, as Apple does not store card numbers or transaction information on the device or its servers.

Peter Ratcliffe, Head of Technology at R.M.Williams, expressed enthusiasm for the implementation of this technology: "As a customer-first brand, we are excited to be one of the first major retailers in New Zealand to roll out Tap to Pay on iPhone. This game-changing technology has already had such a positive impact on customer interactions at our stores across Australia, making the checkout experience even easier for both our store team and our consumers. Instead of customers lining up at the counter to pay, our store team members can react to their needs more organically and checkout customers simultaneously anywhere on the floor."

Peter Clarke, Chief Technology Officer at Lorna Jane, highlighted the operational benefits: "Our business in New Zealand thrives on delivering exceptional customer experiences, with a particular focus on eventing. Implementing Tap to Pay on iPhone while using NewStore POS streamlines our operations, enabling our team to process transactions efficiently with just an iPhone, eliminating the need for additional terminals. This also simplifies our workflow during high-traffic periods and off-site events, and ensures our focus remains on delivering top-tier service and products to our valued customers."

Michael DeSimone, CEO of NewStore, remarked on the expansion: "Expanding Tap to Pay on iPhone to New Zealand marks a significant step in our mission to simplify and enhance retail experiences for our brands and their customers. Through our partnership with Adyen, we're empowering retailers to operate with unmatched flexibility and efficiency on a global basis, while delivering a truly mobile-first unified commerce experience. This collaboration enables our customers to effortlessly integrate secure, contactless payments that enhance customer satisfaction and support their business growth across new markets."

Hayley Fisher, Country Manager ANZ at Adyen, commented on the introduction of the service: "We are thrilled to be one of the first to bring Tap to Pay on iPhone to New Zealand businesses. This represents a new benchmark for digital payments, offering New Zealanders a fast, secure, and convenient way to make transactions. We believe this technology will revolutionise the payments landscape and provide immense value to both consumers and businesses."
