AI Forum launches survey to track AI's impact on productivity

Wed, 22nd May 2024

The AI Forum has introduced a quarterly survey aimed at gauging the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on productivity within Aotearoa New Zealand. This significant initiative comes as the rapid evolution of technology continues to shape various industries.

"In today's rapidly evolving tech landscape, understanding the impact of AI on productivity is more crucial than ever," remarked Madeline Newman, Executive Director of the AI Forum.

The survey seeks to furnish comprehensive data on how AI is being integrated and utilised across New Zealand's business sector. Currently, no comparable data collection efforts exist within the country, making this project an unprecedented endeavour in assessing AI's role in enhancing productivity.

Newman emphasised the importance of good data in identifying opportunities and challenges, stating, "Good data helps us to see where and how Aotearoa New Zealand is using AI, where the opportunities are, and where help might be needed."

The AI Forum's new quarterly survey is designed not only to map out the current usage of AI but also to track changes and trends over time. Such insights are expected to be invaluable for policymakers and business leaders alike, enabling them to make informed decisions.

The initiative is a collaborative effort involving Callaghan Innovation and Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington. The AI Forum plans to release the research findings as free reports accessible to the public. These findings will also contribute to the AI Blueprint Working Group, aiding in the development of strategic discussions and activities concerning AI.

Businesses across New Zealand, regardless of their current usage of AI, are urged to participate in the survey, which remains open until 21 June. The inclusive approach aims to capture a holistic view of the AI landscape in the country.

The AI Forum hopes this effort will help harness the potential of AI to foster a prosperous, inclusive, and equitable future for Aotearoa New Zealand.
