Akkodis named specialist in Gartner physical AI services

Akkodis has been recognised as a Specialist in Gartner's Emerging Market Quadrant for Physical AI Services, placing the engineering consultancy in a market focused on AI-enabled physical systems.

The classification covers services used to design, develop, deploy and operate systems such as robots, autonomous vehicles, drones and industrial infrastructure in real-world settings. Gartner said the market is shifting from experimentation to operational reliability at scale, driven by labour pressures, safety demands, infrastructure upgrades, and advances in AI, simulation and automation.

Akkodis said its work in the area spans system design, simulation, integration, deployment and lifecycle management. Part of Adecco Group, it has applied those services in aerospace, manufacturing, mining and defence.

Examples include a 30% to 50% reduction in advanced driver assistance systems test cycles, AI livestock monitoring deployed across thousands of edge devices, predictive maintenance for harbour cranes to reduce downtime, and collaborative aerospace robotics using digital twin integration.

Market shift

The recognition comes as physical AI draws more attention from industrial groups seeking to move beyond pilot projects. Unlike software-only AI systems, physical AI combines algorithms with machinery, sensors and control systems that must operate safely and consistently in changing environments.

That makes engineering services central to the market, especially in sectors where failure can interrupt production, damage infrastructure or create safety risks. It also increases the importance of testing, validation and long-term system management, rather than model development alone.

Akkodis has sought to position itself across that broader chain of work. It said its offering combines hardware, software and AI engineering with simulation-led development, edge processing and governance measures intended to support compliance and reliability.

Expansion plans

Akkodis has also expanded in the segment through investment, acquisitions and partnerships. These include AI-Core, which it describes as a modular AI platform for intelligent automation; the acquisition of Synergeticon to add expertise in AI perception, robotics and autonomous systems; and a partnership with Scaleout Systems focused on distributed edge AI and real-time intelligence.

Those additions reflect a wider trend in industrial AI, where service providers are assembling tools and specialist teams to support customers from early design through to field deployment. Edge computing and digital twin modelling have become particularly important where systems must respond in real time and where customers want to validate performance before installation.

Akkodis employs 40,000 engineers and digital specialists across more than 30 countries, according to company information. Its parent, Adecco Group, is better known for recruitment and workforce services, but Akkodis has become its engineering and technology arm.

For consulting and engineering companies, external rankings in emerging technology categories can help signal credibility in a fragmented market. Physical AI remains a relatively young services segment, with providers ranging from industrial software groups and robotics specialists to broader consultancies with engineering operations.
