Tue, 1st Sep 2009
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Around 300 ASB staff volunteered to take the calls for the TV3 Big Night In telethon at the bank’s contact centre in Albany last month.ASB GM for contact centres Tony Blacklock says they created a specific application to handle the telethon calls and ASB staff underwent a 20-minute training session before they were able to answer calls.Over the course of the telethon’s 23 hours, the centre took donations from 8000 donors, with busiest times being 7.30pm to 9pm on Saturday 8 August and 4.30pm to 6pm on Sunday 9 August. The Big Night In raised around $2 million for the charity KidsCan, which provides breakfast, raincoats and shoes for children in low-decile schools.
