Author-it launches in cloud
Thu, 15th Dec 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Kiwi tech company Author-it has become the latest big business to offer its software as a service, with the launch of Author-it Cloud.

An enterprise authoring tool, Author-it Cloud offers all the benefits users have come to expect from SaaS solutions, including ease of delivery, scalability, and price advantages.

Announcing the move in an international webinar this morning, Author-it founder and CEO Paul Trotter said Author-it Cloud is the culmination of two years of development and beta trial.

"What we're really excited about is the trend in cloud computing and how this is going to revolutionise the way organisations do their IT,” Trotter says.

"We have recently seen major companies moving to the cloud that we would never have thought would consider cloud computing. The traditional concerns like security are melting away.

Author-it will be boosting its data center capabilities as customers take up the service, with plans for new facilities in the US, New Zealand and Europe to add to the current Florida location.

The company will continue to offer Author-it as a product, although Trotter says he expects most customers to adopt the SaaS model.

Asked whether it will be possible to return to Author-it after adopting Author-it Cloud, Trotter says it will be, but he can't imagine anyone wanting to.
