beIN & Planetcast boost sports broadcasts in Asia Pacific

Fri, 28th Mar 2025

beIN Asia Pacific has partnered with Planetcast to enhance its sports programming delivery across Southeast Asia and Australia.

The collaboration will involve the use of Planetcast's Cloud.X Turbo playout solution and NexC platform to power 16 HD sports channels. This will include both live events and pre-recorded content, ensuring distribution across various platforms. The partnership is designed to boost business growth in the Asia Pacific region by enabling seamless content preparation, processing, distribution, and monetisation.

The Planetcast Media Services support structure will be based on the Cloud.X Turbo and Recaster modules. Cloud.X Turbo is designed for high-performance sports playout and optimised for multiplatform distribution with low latency, whereas Recaster facilitates IP delivery using the public internet to provide global broadcast quality video streams.

In addition to content delivery, Planetcast will offer a suite of services meeting beIN's requirements for its broadcast, over-the-top (OTT), and free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) services. This includes media management, onboarding, and disaster recovery services, supporting beIN's delivery of sports programming to its audience while improving efficiency and scaling capabilities.

As a key player in the region, beIN Asia Pacific serves 12 countries including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. The company's offerings under the beIN SPORTS brand consist of major sports events such as Formula 1, UEFA Champions League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, EFL, Roland-Garros, and the Australian Open.

"beIN SPORTS is a leader in live sports media innovation, and this partnership with Planetcast reinforces our commitment to delivering exceptional viewing experiences," said Sabil Salim, Vice President, Media Technology & Operations, beIN Asia Pacific. "Planetcast's proven expertise in managing major sports like the Indian Premier League (IPL), its leading-edge Cloud.X Turbo solution, and its robust NexC cloud platform provide the scalability, reliability, and seamless integration we need to elevate sports broadcasting across the region."

Planetcast's partnership with beIN will cover playout origination and support, managing 16 linear HD channels with 24/7 content, integrating live events with pre-recorded materials, and multi-layered graphics delivered via 10 regional drop points. Content contribution and distribution will be facilitated by handling 48 concurrent live input streams through satellite, IP, and SRT using Recaster. Content aggregation and ingest services will ensure rapid availability of sports programming, supported by comprehensive media management, quality control, and onboarding services.

"Our partnership with beIN Asia Pacific represents a strategic step forward in Planetcast's mission to enable global media brands to grow and innovate," said Sanjay Duda, CEO of Planetcast. "By leveraging Cloud.X Turbo, Recaster and other services and solutions available through our NexC platform, beIN will gain a competitive edge, delivering exceptional content experiences while navigating the challenges of an ever-evolving broadcast landscape."

The NexC platform, featuring Cloud.X Turbo and Recaster, aims to streamline content management and distribution for media companies with a flexible and scalable cloud-driven architecture. It integrates functionalities including post-production, cloud playout, and IP contribution under a unified platform to meet increasing multi-platform content demand while achieving operational efficiencies. Planetcast will display the NexC platform at NAB Show 2025 in Las Vegas, highlighting its advances in AI-powered content automation and cloud-native media workflows.
