BT & Equinix expand to boost global interconnectivity

Today

BT and Equinix have announced an expansion of their partnership to enhance interconnectivity options for multinational customers.

BT's Global Fabric, a network-as-a-service platform, has been deployed in over 30 Equinix data centres and is expected to extend to over 40 within the coming year. This expansion will cover the world's top 30 business locations and account for 95% of the global cloud interconnection traffic.

When completed, Global Fabric aims to be accessible through 140 points of presence and hosted in leading cloud locations spanning 40 countries. This will enable 74% direct coverage of hyperscaler clouds and provide pre-provisioned high-bandwidth connectivity to more than 700 data centres worldwide.

The platform is designed to assist multinational organisations in securely, flexibly, and reliably connecting with their digital value chains. It enhances the ability to deploy and scale interconnectivity with partners and suppliers efficiently.

Global Fabric offers visibility and control over access and core networks, optimising network performance for workloads in various environments, including offices, factories, operational sites, and multi-cloud cores.

Equinix's global platform supports multiple clouds and provides access to a substantial number of services: approximately 2,000 network services, about 3,000 cloud and IT services, over 400 content and digital media services, and more than 4,800 enterprises.

This collaboration broadens BT's capacity to offer customers various digital interconnectivity options across their entire business value chain.

The partnership also builds on BT's ongoing relationship with Equinix in quantum secure communications. They jointly accomplished the UK's first data centre-to-data centre connection using this technology.

According to Equinix's Global Interconnection Index, digital ecosystem expansion is significant. By the end of 2025, 80% of business-to-business sales interactions will occur digitally. Businesses integrating industry value chains are reportedly innovating 25% faster than others.

Arun Dev, Global Interconnections at Equinix, said, "Our partnership enables BT to offer its customers interconnectivity with the full Equinix global digital ecosystem of cloud and IT services, hundreds of content and digital media services, and over 4,800 enterprises hosted at our data centres globally."

Matt Swinden, Director of Digital Connectivity at BT Business, remarked, "The BT-Equinix partnership is a terrific example of our strategy to build the strongest digital foundations for our customers. Global Fabric, combined with Equinix's global ecosystem of infrastructure, cloud, and digital service widens the choice we offer customers of the best locations to interconnect their full business value chain. It will help make trading, partnering, and operating a multinational business better on BT."
