Build Paperless opens construction platform to AI agents
Fri, 9th Oct 2026 (Today)
Build Paperless has opened its construction management platform to AI agents, becoming the first Australian job management software listed in Anthropic's Claude Connectors Directory.
The Sydney software company joins other Australian groups in the directory, including Atlassian and Canva.
The listing gives AI agents governed access to Build Paperless's job management system through the Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI models to software. The platform exposes 37 tools to agents, including functions to read job information, log a site diary entry and raise a defect.
According to the company, access controls are tied to each builder's existing sign-in permissions through OAuth. Agents also cannot independently make contractual changes: actions such as variations are presented as proposals that require human approval.
Financial information is restricted unless a builder grants separate permission. Agent access is being sold as a paid add-on to an existing Build Paperless subscription.
Construction focus
Build Paperless is targeting a sector that remains one of the largest parts of the Australian economy but has been slow to digitise. Australian Bureau of Statistics figures cited by the company show construction accounted for 7.0 per cent of GDP and about 1.3 million workers in 2023-24, while $82.5 billion of work was completed in the June quarter of 2026.
The business also cited a 2025 Productivity Commission finding that the industry completes half as many homes per hour worked as it did in 1995. Build Paperless argues that AI agents working within a controlled system of record could help address part of that productivity gap in an industry where many jobs are still managed through spreadsheets, email and paper.
The software covers estimating, scheduling, job tracking, contracts, variations, progress claims, supplier orders, client portals and accounting synchronisation. It runs on the web, iOS and Android, and serves builders and trades in Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
Directory entry
The server behind the Claude directory listing also supports an open npm package for developers working in Claude Code and Cursor, according to the company. Public developer documentation has also been released as part of the rollout.
Build Paperless was established in Sydney in 2025. Its pitch to construction customers is that AI tools can be introduced within existing job records without removing human oversight from sensitive decisions.
Founder Harry Rao highlighted that distinction in comments on the launch. "This year every construction platform will be asked the same question by its customers: can my AI assistant work with it?" Rao said.
He said the platform was designed to assist with administrative work while leaving final decisions to the builder. "We built Build Paperless to be the system of record an agent can be trusted with. It reads the job, drafts the paperwork and hands the decision back to the builder. That is the difference between an AI demo and software a builder will let near a two million dollar contract," Rao said.
