CareerVillage enhances platform with New Relic observability tools
New Relic, an intelligent observability platform, has announced that CareerVillage, an edtech nonprofit organisation focused on crowdsourcing career advice, has standardised its observability practice using New Relic's platform.
CareerVillage, known for hosting the world's largest career advising community, relies on New Relic to foster innovation, scale operations, and improve user experience as it serves a growing user base of over seven million individuals.
The New Relic all-in-one platform offers CareerVillage real-time insights into system performance. This capability allows the engineering team at CareerVillage to swiftly discern trends and identify potential issues that could impact platform reliability and availability. Utilising New Relic's application performance monitoring (APM), CareerVillage's engineers have a comprehensive view of application health that includes tracking latency trends and identifying bottlenecks at the code level. Furthermore, New Relic's alert management system enables the team to proactively detect and resolve issues before they affect the users.
CareerVillage's Executive Director, Jared Chung, remarked on the value of the partnership: "As a small team with such an extensive platform, leaning on New Relic as our observability platform has allowed us to leverage cutting-edge technology and scale. Our aim is to transform education through technology, and New Relic has been instrumental in our growth, delivering end-to-end insights into our IT stack and ensuring a smooth digital experience for millions of users worldwide."
Among the noteworthy impacts of this collaboration is a 67% reduction in page load time, with CareerVillage improving site performance, bringing down page load time from 300 milliseconds to under 100 milliseconds. This enhancement provides users with a faster and smoother experience. The scalability aspect was also notable, as New Relic helped optimise CareerVillage's login system to accommodate up to 700 students logging in concurrently, supporting over 6,000 student queries answered each month during peak periods.
Another significant achievement includes a 133% growth in engineering team productivity. By spending less time on monitoring and troubleshooting, CareerVillage's engineering team has been able to focus more on developing new features. This shift has stimulated innovation without increasing operational costs.
One major innovation attributed to the improved observability is "Coach," an AI-powered career coach. The AI tool depends on New Relic to monitor response times and ensure a seamless interaction for users seeking personalised career guidance. This tool is part of CareerVillage's commitment to harness technology to revolutionise education and career guidance.
CareerVillage's success with New Relic underpins the platform's role in supporting organisations through enhanced digital experiences and reliability. As the partnership continues, both organisations aim to drive further innovations in edtech solutions and expand the reach of career guidance to a broader audience globally.
