Cequence boosts API security with machine learning enhancements

Tue, 14th May 2024

Cequence, a specialist in API security and bot management, unveiled multiple machine learning (ML)-driven enhancements to its Unified API Protection (UAP) platform at the RSA Conference. With this announcement, Cequence intends to introduce ML-based security features, a new approach to digital asset protection in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The security tools offered are primarily designed to identify, in an automated manner, any abnormal or malicious traffic patterns, creating rules and models, as well as instant policies for swift threat mitigation. This not only ensures continuous protection but also remains active during off-peak hours. Additionally, the system heavily reduces the analysts' workload through automation. Every data-processing task becomes up to 90% faster, saving approximately one hour each time.

Ameya Talwalkar, CEO of Cequence, emphasized the escalating nature of API threats and the rising pressure on CISOs and software engineering leaders to enhance their defences against AI-exploited attacks. Talwalkar asserts, "Our industry-leading innovations in ML-based security features set a new standard for safeguarding against these evolving threats against applications and their APIs." He also reaffirmed Cequence's commitment to providing innovative solutions that can navigate the intricacies of API security and bot management in a landscape increasingly marked by AI-driven adversarial tactics.

The upgrades to the UAP product suite are claimed to represent a significant shift in API security. These improvements promise to provide unparalleled visibility, streamlined testing, and autonomous threat mitigation, allowing organizations to confidently secure their API infrastructure. Additionally, Cequence's solutions offer automated detection of API management status, customisable security testing, and ML-driven threat detection and mitigation.

Furthermore, Cequence, with its latest advancements, enhances Automated Threat Detection and Mitigation. This incorporates automatic Rule, Model & Policy Generation, offering an efficient ML-Aided Response system, and Enhanced Parallel Threat Hunting, which allows for simultaneous threat hunting activities across multiple API endpoints.

The company has likewise improved the Customized API Discovery and Bespoke API Security Testing. The latter includes Tailor-made API Security Test Plans, the configuration of Flexible Authentication Profiles to test APIs using various user personas and privileges, and Adaptable Test Cases to generate diverse attack traffic profiles per API group.

Venky Ganesan, partner at Menlo Ventures, highlighted the importance of Cequence's innovative technologies, stating, "With APIs at the forefront of modern business applications, Cequence's innovative technologies, such as real-time attack detection and discovery of AI applications, are crucial for addressing the challenges posed by the development and use of distributed APIs."

Carlos Morales, SVP solutions at Vercara, expressed his company's pleasure in partnering with Cequence. He remarked, "With new advanced ML capabilities, Cequence's technology empowers organizations to protect their digital assets proactively. UltraAPI, Vercara's new API security service, powered by Cequence, is the perfect complement to our market-leading DDoS, WAF, and DNS platform to safeguard our customers' online presence."
