Suburbs and local towns are leading Christchurch's charge into fibre broadband, with Rolleston, Burnside and Addington topping Enable's list of connected areas.
All three areas have more than 20% of homes and businesses which can access fibre broadband services already connected, with Rolleston standing at 24%. Five other suburbs and towns – Halswell (17%), Lincoln (16%), Bishopdale (12%), Casebrook (12%) and Bryndwr (10%) – have cracked the 10% mark.
Burnside and Bryndwr have only had access to fibre broadband for a few months.
“This demonstrates that many people understand that fibre broadband really improves their internet experience and so they want to connect as soon as possible,” Steve Fuller, Enable CEO, says.
Enable is contacted to deliver fibre to Christchurch and its surrounding centres.
Fuller says suburbs across Enable's coverage area are making the move to fibre 'in very large numbers'.
Enable has 6100 customers out of 57,000 homes and businesses that can access its network – an almost 11% total uptake.
Local uptake is tracking ahead of the latest average national figures and Christchurch, including the surrounding towns, is sitting just outside of the top five towns and cities.
