Cloud tech to “revolutionise” TV broadcasting

FYI, this story is more than a year old

After signing a major deal with HP and talking up its ability to undercut the likes of Cisco, Vidyo has unveiled a suite of broadcast tools that "unlocks the potential" for TV networks to turn to cloud-based solutions.

Not holding back in the bold claims department, the company says VidyoCast will revolutionise broadcast contribution and transmission by using the cloud to help stations expand field operations and production capabilities.

VidyoCast uses software and hardware to achieve SD/HD quality video transport, remote contribution, ENG, sports production, net return, Master Control back up and disaster recovery. It can also be integrated into existing broadcast infrastructure.

The firm says that VidyoCast is significant to the broadcast industry because the use of satellite or fibre for content acquisition and transmission is very costly and to get ad hoc video feeds is time-consuming.

VidyoCast supports the broadcast production chain (content acquisition, production, distribution) using broadband links (including the internet) as transport, reducing transmission costs "to 1/10th of the traditional expenses" involved.

"The VidyoCast suite allows broadcasters to accomplish easily and inexpensively what until now has been difficult and costly, and includes innovations the industry has never before seen," said Jim O'Brien, General Manager, VidyoCast. "Now news and sports organisations, as well as game show and reality TV producers, can easily manage and control tens or even hundreds of contribution feeds from all over the world at the same time.
