Commvault expands with new cloud backup for Google Workspace

Wed, 9th Oct 2024

Commvault has announced an expansion in its collaboration with Google Cloud through the introduction of Commvault Cloud Backup & Recovery for Google Workspace.

The newly unveiled solution is expected to be available by the end of the year and aims to offer comprehensive enterprise-grade protection for key Google Workspace applications such as Gmail, Google Drive, and Shared Drives. It is designed to maintain data safety, compliance, and recoverability, integrating the ease-of-use provided by a Software as a Service (SaaS) model, while also incorporating built-in Google Cloud Storage for extensive protection across various workloads.

This development represents a deepening of Commvault's engagement with Google Cloud, enabling Google Workspace customers to benefit from improved security measures, streamlined data recovery processes, and scalable cloud solutions. The offering includes features such as effortless discovery of active data, rapid recovery from accidental or malicious data loss, and compliance-ready data storage within the Commvault Cloud.

The Commvault Cloud Backup & Recovery solution enhances cyber resilience for Google Workspace users by incorporating stringent security protocols and zero-trust access controls. The multi-layered data protection strategy is aimed at minimising the impact of cyber threats and data loss incidents.

The subscription-based SaaS model employed by Commvault Cloud aims to deliver cost-effective protection without the complexity of infrastructure management, while offering unlimited long-term data retention.

Commvault is also introducing Cloud Rewind, a feature that integrates Appranix's application rebuild capabilities into the Commvault Cloud platform. This addition provides an automated, cloud-native rebuild solution for Google Cloud customers, helping them recover swiftly from cyber incidents.

Furthermore, Commvault had previously introduced support for object retention lock on Google Cloud Storage, featuring immutable object storage as an additional defence against ransomware threats.

Michael Mathews, Vice President for Global Learning and Innovation at Oral Roberts University, expressed his perspective on the importance of data protection: "In today's fast-paced, cloud-driven world, having seamless data protection is crucial for our operations. Commvault's solution for Google Workspace will enable us to confidently manage our data across Gmail and Google Drive, knowing that we have enterprise-level protection and the ability to recover quickly in the event of an issue. This will empower us to focus on our business while Commvault keeps our data safe."

Rajiv Kottomtharayil, Chief Product Officer at Commvault, highlighted the criticality of data protection as businesses increasingly rely on Google Workspace. "As businesses increasingly rely on Google Workspace, safeguarding their critical data has never been more essential. With Commvault Cloud Backup & Recovery, we're delivering a purpose-built solution that not only simplifies data protection but also elevates security and compliance standards for Google Cloud customers," he stated. "By combining the simplicity of SaaS with enterprise-grade recovery, we're helping organizations strengthen their cyber resilience across the hybrid cloud landscape."
