CoreWeave selects VAST Data in USD $1.17bn AI cloud platform deal
CoreWeave has finalised an agreement valued at USD $1.17 billion (AUD $1.8 billion) with VAST Data, positioning VAST as the primary data foundation for CoreWeave's AI cloud operations. The partnership will see CoreWeave deploying VAST's AI operating system across its data centres, enabling customers ongoing access to computing resources for demanding workloads.
Cloud expansion
With this deal, CoreWeave will integrate VAST's AI operating system into its infrastructure, allowing instant access to large datasets and supporting both training and inference AI workloads. This integration is designed to facilitate seamless deployment in any data centre, which CoreWeave says enhances reliability and scalability for enterprise clients.
The new arrangement extends an existing collaboration. CoreWeave will now work with VAST to provide joint customers with full-stack data services, which aim to optimise data pipelines and supply advanced capabilities for AI model design and deployment.
Performance focus
"The VAST AI Operating System underpins key aspects of how we design and deliver our AI cloud. This partnership enables us to deliver AI infrastructure that is the most performant, scalable, and cost-efficient in the market, while reinforcing the trust and reliability of a data platform that our customers depend on for their most demanding workloads," said Brian Venturo, Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer, CoreWeave
The alliance will see VAST's technology used to support GPU-accelerated infrastructure for AI, allowing for continuous training and real-time inference across extensive data sets. The system's architecture is described as infinitely scalable, which is intended to support growth in AI compute and data processing needs for industries that rely on mission-critical applications.
Industry context
Both VAST Data and CoreWeave are positioning their combined offering as an approach to meet rising requirements among organisations developing and deploying advanced AI systems. Their joint solution aims to consolidate foundational data and compute services, streamlining the management of workflows and communications between AI-driven processes.
This announcement follows similar moves by cloud and AI infrastructure companies to partner closely on delivering frictionless and efficient services to enterprises looking to expand their machine learning and data-driven capabilities without increasing operational complexity.
Strategic alignment
VAST Data has described the expanded pact as the result of a long-term collaboration at both business and technical levels. The company says that aligning product roadmaps will allow delivery of platforms and technology stacks that are not readily available elsewhere in the market.
"At VAST, we are building the data foundation for the most ambitious AI initiatives in the world. Our deep integration with CoreWeave is the result of a long-term commitment to working side by side at both the business and technical level. By aligning our roadmaps, we are delivering an AI platform that organisations cannot find anywhere else in the market," said Renen Hallak, Founder and CEO, VAST Data
