Corsearch unveils CVAN to tackle online counterfeiting
Corsearch has launched a new brand protection platform for online marketplaces, called the Corsearch Visual Authentication Network, or CVAN.
The company said the system takes a proactive approach to counterfeiting and other intellectual property infringements. It said the platform identifies suspect listings before they appear online, rather than relying on post-publication takedowns.
Corsearch said it developed CVAN with input from global platforms and brands. The company positioned the product as a response to the scale and speed of online counterfeiting and the limits of current enforcement models.
Cross-platform view
Corsearch said marketplaces often operate with separate moderation teams and data. It said this structure creates gaps in visibility when bad actors move from one platform to another.
“Marketplaces have traditionally operated as isolated ecosystems with their own data, rules, and moderation teams. This creates blind spots, as bad actors can easily migrate from one platform to another, exploiting the lack of cross-platform visibility and specific product knowledge needed to identify sophisticated infringements instantly,” said Matteo Amerio, President, Brand and Content Protection, Corsearch.
Corsearch said CVAN monitors more than 1,500 marketplaces each day. The company said it uses brand insights and cross-platform signals to inform marketplace filtering and moderation workflows.
“CVAN changes this dynamic. By monitoring over 1,500 marketplaces daily, it leverages brand insights and cross-platform visibility to bring marketplace filtering and user protection to the next level”, said Amerio.
Shifting enforcement
Corsearch described the current enforcement cycle as slow. It said the typical industry process can take an average of ten days between detection and removal of infringing listings.
The company said CVAN shortens that timeline by making recommendations before publication. It said this approach reduces the window that counterfeiters and other infringers exploit.
Corsearch said the goal is a model where detection costs less than publishing a listing. The company linked that dynamic to the wider economics of counterfeiting on large platforms.
Platform control
Corsearch said CVAN operates as a platform-native technology and follows each platform’s rules. The company said platforms keep decision-making control and can use automation where they choose.
Corsearch said CVAN provides pre-publishing recommendations in near real-time. It said the system draws on proprietary technology and the company’s brand knowledge to flag listings before they go live.
Operational impact
Corsearch said marketplaces face rising moderation loads as illicit listings scale across categories and regions. It said CVAN changes how platforms assess risk and allocate resources.
The company cited one example from a large marketplace. It said the marketplace cut internal moderation time by more than 90% after using CVAN. It also said the marketplace proactively suppressed more than 90% of violations.
Beyond counterfeits
Corsearch said CVAN does not focus solely on counterfeit goods. It said the system also identifies IP abuses such as trademark and copyright violations.
The company said CVAN can also flag content that breaches a platform’s own terms and internal policies. It said this approach extends the system’s role beyond brand protection into broader content compliance.
Corsearch LABS
Corsearch also introduced Corsearch LABS as a digital-first innovation unit. The company said CVAN is the first product in a planned series of new offerings from the group.
Corsearch said the unit focuses on developing market-ready products through industry collaboration. It said its priority is speed in response to changes in the illicit online market.
“For years, platforms and brands have sought ways to collaborate, yet certain gaps remain insurmountable,” said Pietro Gagliano, Head of Corsearch LABS.
“We are genuinely thrilled to have created CVAN, as the market's only solution capable of bridging this divide. CVAN enables successful cooperation between platforms, brands, and providers, marking another significant stride toward making the internet a safer environment for all,” said Gagliano.
Amerio framed the launch as a wider industry push towards automation and coordination between platforms, brands, and service providers.
“CVAN is more than just a technological upgrade; it is a call to unify the industry. It is time to stop simply throwing people at a problem that requires exponential automation, speed, scale, collaboration and deep IP domain expertise. We must leverage proactive technologies, to push for collaboration between the key stakeholders to have a chance at impacting one of the greatest threats to brand trust and consumer safety: counterfeits,” said Amerio.
Corsearch said it will expand Corsearch LABS with further releases focused on illicit markets and online IP violations.
