FYI, this story is more than a year old

Check Point Security, a worldwide leader in securing the internet, has revealed a damning new report, in which over 50% of organisations have suffered data loss during the past year.

Based on research of nearly 900 companies and 120,000 hours of monitored traffic, the 2013 Check Point Security Report reveals major security risks organisations are exposed to on a daily basis.

Alarmingly for businesses, the report claims 54% of the organisations had at least one potential data loss incident during the past year, while 63% of the companies were infected with bots.

"Hackers' techniques are constantly changing, using more advanced and sophisticated attack methods, raising the security challenge to new levels," the report says.

"Data Centers, employees' computers and mobile phones are prime targets for hackers who deploy an endless variety of malware such as bots, trojans and drive-by downloads."

Furthermore, 36% of the financial organisations sent credit card information outside of the business, while 16% of the healthcare and insurance companies sent HIPPA-protected health information outside of company walls.

The report also claims as many as 75% of the organisations surveyed have visited malicious websites, further highlighting the growing issue of security within the industry.

"This modern war of advanced threats and attacks is here to stay," the report says. "Corporate information stored in data centers, servers, PCs and mobile phones is increasing at the speed of light, and more data and platforms imply more risks.

"Finally, the list of security threats is not getting any shorter, and each new attack reveals a deeper level of sophistication."
