Multinational computer company Dell are rumoured to be in talks with private equity firms about a possible move to go private.

Bloomberg TV reported that the PC maker is considering the change, yet offers little in the way of details as to when.

Shares in the company were up 10% after trading yesterday, but the focus was firmly on CEO Michael Dell and his intentions.

As reported by Bloomberg, when asked two years ago whether he ever considered taking his computer private, Dell's answer was a simple "Yes", with the media using this as the basis for the rumours.

The website says two people with knowledge of the matter made the revelation, but stress talks are preliminary and could fall apart at any stage.

News of the talks follows Dell's recent acquisition of Credant Technologies, which was officially formalized over the holiday period.
