Devart has released dbForge 2026.1, adding new artificial intelligence features and broader PostgreSQL tools across its database software range.

The release focuses on updates to the dbForge AI Assistant, which now uses database index metadata when generating and refining SQL. It can access information on clustered, non-clustered, composite, unique and B-tree indexes to support query generation and optimisation recommendations across supported database systems.

The assistant can convert natural language into SQL, generate context-aware queries, optimise existing SQL, identify redundant or missing indexes, explain SQL code, analyse errors and answer database-related questions through an integrated chat interface.

Victor Horlenko, Head of AI Innovations at Devart, outlined the rationale for the changes.

"AI-generated SQL becomes substantially more valuable when it understands the structure and performance characteristics of the underlying database," Horlenko said. "The goal is to help teams accelerate development while maintaining stronger query performance and optimization standards."

PostgreSQL focus

A second part of the release expands PostgreSQL development features in dbForge Studio for PostgreSQL and dbForge Edge. It introduces a visual Query Builder for PostgreSQL, giving users a drag-and-drop interface to create SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE and JOIN queries without writing each command manually.

The update also adds an enhanced SQL Editor, syntax highlighting within code blocks enclosed in dollar quotes, index name suggestions and changes to document tab management. These adjustments are intended to support day-to-day database work for developers, analysts, database administrators and business intelligence teams.

Devart has also added a visual Table Editor for PostgreSQL, allowing users to manage columns, primary and foreign keys, unique constraints, indexes and other table properties through a graphical interface.

Schema tools

Schema comparison and synchronisation have also been expanded for PostgreSQL and Amazon Redshift. The release adds broader support for PostgreSQL and related servers, more schema and table mapping options, and comparison and synchronisation of indexes on tables and materialised views.

These changes extend dbForge's PostgreSQL tooling beyond query development into database design and migration workflows. The release also introduces pinned document tabs, allowing users to keep frequently used SQL scripts, schema files and queries readily accessible during multi-tab sessions.

Andrii Melnykov, Head of Product at dbForge, said the update is aimed at teams that want to handle multiple database tasks within one environment.

"With dbForge 2026.1, we're delivering a unified database development solution for PostgreSQL teams," Melnykov said. "By bringing visual query development, database design, and enhanced schema comparison into a familiar environment, we're helping teams make their daily work easier and more comfortable."

dbForge 2026.1 is available across dbForge Edge, dbForge Studio for SQL Server, dbForge Studio for PostgreSQL, dbForge Studio for MySQL, dbForge Studio for Oracle and other products in the dbForge line. Customers with active subscriptions can obtain the update immediately, while other users can test the new release through a trial version.

Devart develops database management software, application lifecycle management tools, data providers, and data integration and backup products. Its dbForge portfolio is used for SQL development, database administration and data management across SQL Server, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, PostgreSQL and cloud database services.
