DocuWare unveils AI-powered document processing solution

Sun, 5th Jan 2025

DocuWare has announced the launch of its new AI-powered Intelligent Document Processing (DocuWare IDP) solution, which enhances data extraction, interpretation, and classification from complex documents.

The company states that DocuWare IDP automates text recognition from both structured and unstructured documents and includes features such as document pre-processing, classification, and data extraction from various types of documents like invoices, purchase orders, and contracts. DocuWare IDP is available as a standalone product, with integration options for DocuWare Cloud or on-premises solutions, expanding its offering to new market segments.

"Harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence, DocuWare IDP automates text recognition from structured and unstructured documents, pre-processing such as splitting and cropping of documents, document classification by recognising the document type, and extraction of data from invoices, purchase orders, ID cards, contracts and many more," the company stated.

"With advanced optical character recognition (OCR), it accurately extracts data from low-quality scans or handwritten documents (HTR). DocuWare IDP helps businesses drive employee productivity by reducing the need for manual intervention and better manage operational costs by allowing them to scale with the same or fewer resources. Fast automation rates, automatic classification and pre-trained use cases contribute to a significant reduction in the time spent triggering document-driven processes and workflows."

DocuWare IDP claims to offer significant benefits for businesses dealing with high volumes of complex documents. The system is designed to handle documents that contain unstructured data and complex elements such as tables with page breaks, ensuring that the required data is ready for further processing.

The company highlights several practical applications for DocuWare IDP across various industries. One of these is mail room automation, where the IDP system can classify incoming documents that businesses receive by post or email into categories like invoices or legal letters. This automation allows relevant workflows, such as invoice approval or contract signing processes, to be triggered without manual intervention.

In invoice processing, DocuWare IDP automates the extraction of data from incoming invoices, including complex line items. The extracted data can then be used to match against purchase orders and delivery notes, facilitating automatic approval processes.

DocuWare IDP also assists with contract management by extracting essential information such as contracting parties, contract duration, and notice periods. This data can be used to automate contract approval, renewal, or cancellation workflows, thereby enhancing automation rates.

For claim management, the system classifies documents and extracts relevant information, ensuring all necessary document types are included in a claim dossier and that the data is consistent across documents.
