Yesterday

Domo has released the 12th edition of its Data Never Sleeps study, showcasing the volume of digital data generated every 60 seconds globally and the influence of AI on consumer behaviour.

The report indicates that the global internet population has reached 5.52 billion, with AI emerging as a critical factor in transforming digital engagement patterns. The study highlights a plethora of data generated across various platforms, underlining the role technology plays in everyday life.

Josh James, Founder and CEO of Domo, remarked, "The phenomenal acceleration of generative AI over the past two years has dominated the digital conversation, and this year's Data Never Sleeps shows how we've reached a new tipping point — AI is primed to dethrone competitive mainstays of the internet era. In the year ahead, we'll be watching how this shift changes our broad range of digital activity, impacts the competitive landscape, and accelerates corporate investment in AI-ready data and tech."

The report notes a 6% decrease in Google searches, with numbers falling from 6.3 million last year to 5.9 million per minute in 2024. Such a drop is attributed to the growing influence of generative AI technologies. Meanwhile, Siri is reported to handle over 1 million queries every minute, and Google's Gemini draws 8,574 visitors in the same span, marking AI's expanding role in everyday tasks.

In the entertainment sector, streaming habits appear to be shifting. Netflix streaming has decreased by 19% to 362,962 hours since 2021. Nonetheless, platforms like TikTok and Snapchat are witnessing substantial engagement, with TikTok users uploading 16,000 videos and snaps sent rising by 37% from 2022. Moreover, Facebook and Instagram reels enjoy 138.9 million plays every minute, signifying the ongoing popularity of digital content.

The use of digital collaboration tools reflects changes in professional communication practices. Microsoft Teams accounts for 229 million meeting minutes, Slack users send 1.04 million messages, and Zoom is downloaded 288 times each minute, showcasing the ongoing reliance on virtual collaboration tools.

Online shopping continues to soar, with DoorDash diners placing orders worth USD $126,763 and global consumer spending reaching USD $43.6 million during Cyber Week, all within 60 seconds. These figures underscore the accelerated pace of digital commerce.

Data security remains a critical concern, as 4,080 records are compromised in data breaches every minute. This statistic highlights the growing importance of robust cybersecurity measures and governance as digital activities increase.

Josh James further commented on the implications for businesses, stating, "As AI accelerates, businesses need to make their data and technology ready to leverage its advantages with speed and confidence, and our annual report showcases how critical it is for businesses to start flexing its competitive power now."

The Data Never Sleeps 12.0 report provides insight into the ongoing evolution of digital habits and the increasing impact of AI, serving as a resource for businesses to understand and adapt to these trends.
