ECI Software Solutions hires Jack Wood to drive AI push

Wed, 4th Mar 2026

ECI Software Solutions has appointed Jack Wood as chief technology officer, bringing in a senior engineering leader as it advances artificial intelligence and platform modernisation across its product portfolio.

Wood has more than 25 years of engineering leadership experience. He will be responsible for ECI's technical vision and architectural standards, with a focus on building scalable, secure and modern systems. His remit also covers product delivery and the engineering foundations behind it, including infrastructure, tools and working practices.

Wood joins ECI's executive leadership as software suppliers compete to add AI features that fit day-to-day business processes. ECI sells cloud-based business management software and services for small and mid-sized businesses, with a focus on manufacturing, building and construction, field service and distribution.

ECI wants AI functions that are integrated into existing workflows and perform reliably in production. It also highlighted the importance of security as it expands AI across its software portfolio.

Trevor Gruenewald, ECI's chief executive officer, said the hire supports a broader push to move from early progress to repeatable execution.

"AI is most powerful when it's practical, secure, and embedded in the workflows our customers rely on," Gruenewald said. "We have strong momentum in applying AI across ECI, and now we need to drive scalable execution. With Jack's leadership, we will accelerate platform modernisation and deliver practical AI that's reliable in production and has tangible impact to our SMB customers."

Career background

Before joining ECI, Wood worked at Symetra, Capital One, Wayfair, NASA Jet Propulsion Labouratory and Bell Labs. Most recently, he was senior vice president and head of engineering at Symetra, where he led an engineering organisation of more than 350 people.

At Symetra, he worked on platform modernisation and AI and automation workflows, according to ECI. Earlier, he helped deliver cloud-native platforms for Capital One's Commercial Trade Credit Business. He also held senior engineering leadership roles at online retailer Wayfair during a period when the business expanded revenue from USD $450 million to more than USD $2.8 billion.

ECI operates in a market where customers increasingly ask software vendors to demonstrate clear operational benefits from AI, rather than offering standalone tools. For suppliers serving small and mid-sized businesses, the challenge is often to add automation while keeping products simple to deploy and maintain. That is particularly relevant in sectors such as manufacturing, distribution and field service, where businesses rely on integrated workflows across sales, purchasing, inventory, fulfilment and customer support.

Product focus

ECI positions its software as end-to-end business management technology for SMBs. Its products integrate functions such as sales and marketing, business intelligence, CRM, data and analytics, eCommerce, mobile apps and payment processing. It also emphasises industry-specific design, with software built around processes in manufacturing, construction, field service and distribution.

ECI says it serves more than 25,000 customers in more than 90 countries. It is headquartered in Westlake, Texas, and has offices in the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway and Australia.

In his first statement as chief technology officer, Wood pointed to ECI's data assets and teams, and described the next phase as scaling AI across the company's product lines.

"ECI is in a rare position, with exceptional teams, deep industry data, and a modern technology foundation to turn innovation into everyday impact," Wood said. "We've proven how practical AI can create real value for customers. What excites me is what comes next: amplifying that advantage by scaling secure, workflow-native AI across our portfolio so customers can move faster, operate with more confidence, and get more done every day."

Wood will oversee architectural standards and engineering execution as ECI continues its platform modernisation work and expands AI features across its industry-focused software products.
