Ecommpay unveils new brand identity & inclusivity initiative

Wed, 11th Sep 2024

Ecommpay has launched a new brand identity alongside an inclusivity programme named Ecommpay for Good, focusing on accessibility, inclusivity, and sustainability. Central to this initiative is a comprehensive Guide to Digital Accessibility, aimed at assisting merchants in creating more accessible websites.

The new programme underscores Ecommpay's commitment to accessibility, reflecting the company's broader mission to achieve financial inclusivity. The goal is to support merchants in improving their digital presence to foster a more inclusive environment for all users.

As part of this commitment, the company's own website, mobile SDK, and hosted payment page are undergoing rigorous testing to meet the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard for accessibility. This testing is being conducted by the Digital Accessibility Centre, with certification expected by the end of September 2024.

Miranda McLean, Chief Marketing Officer at Ecommpay, highlighted the significance of the initiative: "The Ecommpay for Good programme is not only designed to empower merchants to create the most inclusive e-commerce presence, but for their customers to also have an accessible and inclusive payment experience."

McLean also noted a disparity in the prioritisation of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors within the payments industry. "The latest Payments Association data suggests that just 5% of payments businesses see ESG as a priority in the next 12 months. We think this is a huge missed opportunity because there is plenty of evidence to prove that inclusivity and accessibility actually drive revenue," she said.

To aid merchants, Ecommpay has collaborated with the Digital Accessibility Centre to develop the Guide to Digital Accessibility. This guide details the necessary actions for meeting the WCAG 2.2 AA standard and includes a checklist for developers to reference while building and maintaining websites. The guide is available as an accessible PDF on Ecommpay's website.

Through the Ecommpay for Good programme, the company aims to support midsize and enterprise businesses, enabling them to conduct trade both domestically and internationally. This initiative dovetails with Ecommpay’s broader partnerships, such as those with Project Nemo and the European Women in Payments Network (EWPN), further solidifying its commitment to inclusivity.

EWPN is a not-for-profit organisation focused on creating a community for women in the cards, FinTech, and payments sectors across Europe. Project Nemo, led by industry champion and former FinTech CEO Joanne Dewar, collaborates with disability champions and service providers to educate on making the industry more inclusive. Ecommpay’s partnership with Project Nemo aims to tackle accessibility challenges within the FinTech and payments sectors, providing support and expertise across various campaign areas throughout the year.

Ecommpay's inclusivity efforts strive to make digital infrastructure more accessible and sustainable, reflecting global trends towards more socially responsible business practices. With their new initiatives and partnerships, Ecommpay is positioning itself at the forefront of these efforts, promoting financial inclusivity on a broad scale.

By providing resources and collaborating with key partners, Ecommpay aims to drive change in the industry, highlighting the broader benefits of inclusivity and accessibility for businesses and users alike.
