ESET NOD32 version 5 due shortly

06 Sep 2011

A new version of the ESET NOD32 and Smart Security solutions is due to ship later this month. Local distributor Chillisoft is pointing to the global release on 22nd September as a likely indicator of local availability. As with all ESET licences, existing customers can update to new versions as part of their standard licence fee at no additional cost.

What are the new and improved features in version 5?

  • Parental Control (Only available in ESET Smart Security)
  • Gamer Mode
  • Startup Scan Delay
  • Auto-Scan of Removable Media
  • Shutdown after Scan
  • Summary Statistics after scan
  • Activation of Product
  • Cloud-powered Reputation
  • Device Control by Device I

Why ESET believe they are better than other solutions:

"ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus focus on proactive detection of malware utilizing advanced heuristics, generic signatures and genetic technology to help protect from unknown threats. Computers are most vulnerable to Internet threats during the window between the virus outbreak and the signature update. Our ThreatSense® technology minimizes the vulnerability during this window."

What are the system requirements?

Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/Home Server on the following chipset i386 (Intel® 80386), AMD64 (x86-64)

Mac Users don't worry, ESET does have a Mac version, find more info here.
