Final countdown for Telecom customers
Wed, 25th Jul 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Telecom’s CDMA customers have under a week to switch mobile networks before its midnight closure at the end of July.

After announcing their new XT network over a year ago, the telecommunications company is reminding customers of the changeover before the Tuesday 31 July cut off.

As of August CDMA customers will no longer be able to make or receive calls (including 111 emergency calls), send texts or use mobile data.

"We are pleased that there seems to be high awareness of the closure, as we have been using a number of channels over the past year to communicate the closure and our exclusive offers available to CDMA customers,” said Chris Quin, Telecom’s acting chief executive.

"We are encouraging customers who have not yet made the switch to do so as soon as they can, and we ask for their patience at our retail stores while our Telecom people ensure their mobile number, prepaid credit and contacts can be transferred to their new device.”

Telecom says they can’t guarantee customers’ mobile numbers will be available after the closure, unless they have switched mobile networks.

Customers’ prepaid balance will also expire when the network closes but as an act of goodwill the company will be available to discuss refunds until October.

Telecom has been offering an exclusive offer for CDMA customers until the date with customers encouraged to check if they are on the CDMA network by calling *333.
