Fujitsu enters the cloud

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Infrastructure, data and application solutions are coming to New Zealand customers through certified data centers under the newly announced Fujitsu Cloud Services.

Fujitsu has said its new Infrastructure as a Service initiative will allow customers to retain control of servers, storage systems and applications, while reducing operating costs and capital expenditures.

According to the company, customers will be able to manage their own usage, add and remove services and change capacity all through an interactive model.

Rod Vawdrey, CEO of Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand, said, “Today Fujitsu Cloud Services become a real alternative to traditional IT consumption models with the release of Infrastructure as a Service, delivered in Australia to meet the needs of our local market.”

Vawdrey added that customer data will be stored in Fujitsu’s data centers in Australia and not in offshore repositories. “It stays under Australian law and under customer control. Our cloud infrastructure is full auditable to satisfy governance and regulatory requirements,” he said.

Speaking to IT Brief today, Fujitsu Communications Specialist Angela Coombes confirmed that if New Zealand customers require their data to be stored within New Zealand’s jurisdiction, then those demands can easily be met.  In October 2009, Fujitsu picked Altech as its distributor in New Zealand with the focus of growing the company’s New Zealand presence.
