Gamma launches APAC push with Australia & NZ focus

Wed, 29th Apr 2026 (Today)

Gamma Communications has launched its APAC push with a focus on Australia and New Zealand, which it sees as central to its regional partner strategy.

Executives described both countries as mature cloud communications markets, with legacy copper and PSTN services largely phased out. As a result, customers and channel partners are already familiar with cloud-based telecoms services.

In a recorded discussion on the launch, Gamma outlined where it sees commercial opportunities for service provider partners. It argued that pricing dynamics in Australia and New Zealand can support stronger margins than in Europe and North America.

"Australia and New Zealand are both mature cloud markets. There's very little copper or PSTN still available in markets, so most people are quite familiar with cloud communications," said Tristan Plummer, Head of Solution Architecture - Service Provider, Gamma Communications.

Plummer also highlighted the market's revenue profile. "Look, margins are good in Australia and New Zealand. The cost price is significantly higher than Europe and North America, and there is plenty of margin to be made by our partners," he said.

Competitive market

Gamma is entering an already crowded market. Plummer said Australia has a small number of top-tier network owners, followed by a longer tail of smaller operators and virtual providers serving customers across the country.

He identified Telstra and Optus as the main network owners at the top of the market, and said Symbio Networks is also a major participant. Below those firms, many operators offer national coverage, though their services often become more limited outside Australia.

Gamma is using that gap to make its case to partners seeking a broader regional or international offer. Its proposition is aimed at both service providers already active in Australia and New Zealand and global providers looking to extend their regional reach.

The company also plans to differentiate itself through automation and self-service tools. According to Plummer, partners had asked for portal-led systems similar to those Gamma uses in Europe, and it is bringing that approach to Australia as part of its APAC model.

Compliance is another theme of the launch. As telecoms regulation tightens in many markets, know-your-customer processes are managed through Gamma's portal so partners can see what is required when they buy telecoms services.

Rules changing

Plummer said Australia's regulatory environment has historically been relatively open, but operators now face new requirements. He pointed to the introduction of a CSP code, which he described as a form of registration needed to operate telecoms services in the country.

The comments suggest Gamma sees regulatory process and onboarding as an important part of its pitch to wholesale and channel partners. In markets where compliance obligations are rising, easier administration can matter as much as price and coverage.

Support on the ground is another part of the regional build-out. Gamma has an operations centre in the Philippines to provide support in the local time zone, while solution architecture, senior sales and commercial staff are based in Sydney.

That footprint is intended to reassure partners that the company has local resources as it expands in the region. For multinational communications providers, a mix of local staff and nearby support operations is often a basic requirement before entering supplier agreements.

Mike Mills, Managing Director - Service Provider, Gamma Communications, framed the launch as an extension of the company's established model in its home market. He argued that the combination of local people, partner support and a broader communications offer gives service providers a reason to consider working with Gamma in Australia and New Zealand.

"So I think when you add all of that in with all of the things that Gamma are known for in the UK, that expert human touch, that kind of attention and long standing value of partnerships, all of the capability, all of the kind of assets, the marketing support, the people support, people in region, I think it makes it and creates a really compelling reason to want to partner with us. So, if you're an existing cloud communications provider in Australia or New Zealand, and you're looking for someone to work with either locally or to provide global capabilities, get in touch. Alternatively, if you're a global provider and you're looking to expand in the region, give us a bell," said Mills.
