Thu, 3rd Dec 2009
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The cloud computing market became a lot busier today with Gen-i launching its cloud offering for the Australasian market.Gen-i also released details on its Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) portfolio, offering customers leveraged virtual servers, storage, networking and desktops. The company plans to offer clients end-to-end solutions including a global public cloud, a local private cloud and an on-site hybrid solution.Gen-i’s Australasia CEO Chris Quin, believes that cloud computing can offer real business value for clients if it is enabled, managed and utilised well. “IDC predicts that cloud computing will become a US$960 million market across Australia and New Zealand by 2013,” he says. “We predict that around 25% of new ICT services will be delivered via the cloud in the future, with the remaining 75% continuing to be deployed either in-house or outsourced to providers, such as Gen-i.”He says because Gen-i’s market is solely in Australasia, the company needed to get it right first time. The roll out of Gen-i’s new cloud services will be phased over the next 12 to 18 months. Gen-i’s existing range of cloud-based services includes hosted security (Safecom) and productivity (Managed Mail) offerings.
