Geotab unveils AI telematics roadmap for ANZ fleets

Geotab has outlined a new telematics product roadmap for Australian fleet operators, centred on AI-based video safety tools, updated in-vehicle hardware and rugged asset trackers that extend visibility beyond standard mobile coverage.

Unveiled at Geotab Connect in Las Vegas, the roadmap positions telematics as more than location reporting. It includes in-cab alerts, expanded vehicle data processing, and tracking for trailers and equipment that sit outside the vehicle network.

The Australia and New Zealand focus reflects operating conditions such as long distances, remote worksites and mixed fleets that often combine light vehicles, heavy vehicles and specialist equipment. The roadmap targets safety use cases, operational reporting and asset utilisation.

"Australian and New Zealand fleets operate in some of the most demanding conditions in the world. This next wave of innovation is about turning connected vehicle data into near real time intelligence that fleets can actually use to prevent incidents, sharpen decision making and maintain visibility across vehicles and critical assets, even in hard to reach areas," said David Brown, Associate Vice President, APAC, Geotab.

Video safety

A key product preview was GO Focus Pro, an expansion of Geotab's GO Focus video telematics line. It is designed to deliver 360-degree visibility around a vehicle and predictive risk detection.

The system combines surround video coverage with in-cab AI alerts, aimed at addressing rising safety concerns and liability exposure for fleet operators.

For heavy-vehicle and worksite environments, Geotab highlighted a "zero latency" backup monitor that provides a near-instant video feed for reversing and docking. Low-speed manoeuvres are a common incident category in depots, construction environments and last-mile delivery operations.

Vehicle devices

Geotab also outlined a revamped generation of its GO hardware and plans to launch a new GO Plus device. These in-vehicle devices collect telematics and diagnostic data for fleet management software.

Built on a new architecture, the updated hardware is intended to support faster AI processing and higher-integrity data, particularly for mixed fleets and operators adding electric vehicles.

For Australian operators, the devices are designed to support modern vehicle platforms and provide diagnostics for fuel tracking and EV performance reporting.

Updates include native Bluetooth connectivity, enhanced tamper protection and "last gasp alerting", which sends a final message if a device loses power.

GO Plus is described as "satellite ready" and includes an integrated WifFi hotspot, intended to provide a trusted data stream for incident reconstruction and operational transparency.

Asset visibility

Outside the vehicle, Geotab introduced GO Anywhere and GO Anywhere Plus, ruggedised asset trackers for trailers, heavy equipment and non-powered assets. For many fleet operators, these assets create cost and availability challenges, particularly when equipment moves between sites without consistent oversight.

GO Anywhere Plus adds the potential for satellite connectivity in Australia, subject to regional availability through select carrier partners. It combines mobile and satellite networks in a commercial IoT device.

The pitch addresses a practical constraint for Australian logistics, utilities and resources operations. In many locations, mobile black spots limit standard trackers. Satellite options exist, but cost, device complexity and power requirements can slow adoption across large asset pools.

Award recognition

Alongside the product roadmap, Geotab announced recipients of its 2026 Geotab Innovation Awards, recognising 19 fleets across commercial and public sector organisations globally.

Geotab said the winners collectively recorded more than 35 million safe miles driven, with more than USD $19 million in savings linked to reduced fuel, maintenance and insurance costs, and more than 8 million pounds of CO2 removed.

From Australia, Essential Energy was named Safety Champion. The utility operates a fleet that travels an average of 35 million kilometres a year across regional and remote New South Wales.

According to Geotab, Essential Energy's programme has nearly halved accident claims and reduced maintenance costs, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Geotab Connect brought together customers, partners and industry representatives to review product development plans and broader changes in connected transportation. For Australia, the roadmap highlights a focus on video-based driver risk tools and tracking for equipment that moves beyond areas with reliable mobile coverage.
