Getac has launched the B360X and B360X Pro fully rugged notebooks in Australia and New Zealand, expanding its B360 range with new processors and a larger display.

The models target frontline workers in sectors including defence, public safety, utilities and manufacturing, especially in locations with limited or no cloud connectivity. They are designed to handle AI-based workloads at the edge rather than rely on a constant internet connection.

Both systems use Intel Core Ultra 5, 7 or X7 Series 3 processors. Units fitted with the Intel Core Ultra X7 chip support up to 180 TOPS of compute performance. They also feature a 14-inch WUXGA LumiBond display rated at 1,400 nits, with a touchscreen that works with gloves or in wet conditions.

The launch reflects a broader push by device makers to equip field computers with more local processing as organisations look to run software in remote or disrupted environments. In industries such as emergency response, defence operations and utilities maintenance, devices often need to function where communications links are weak or unavailable.

Field features

The notebooks include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 as standard. Optional features include dedicated GPS with L1/L5, 4G LTE, and 5G Sub-6 and SA. Buyers can also choose customisable I/O configurations with support for up to two Thunderbolt 4 Type-C ports.

Getac has also added dual hot-swappable batteries to extend use between charges. Security features include Windows Hello via a 5MP front-facing camera, TPM 2.0, a smart card reader, a user-replaceable PCIe NVMe SSD, and Getac Disk Wipe.

Optional additions include a second SSD for up to 4TB of storage across two 2TB drives, as well as an HF RFID reader and a fingerprint reader. The B360X Pro includes dual high-capacity batteries as standard and can be configured with an NVIDIA RTX PRO 500 Blackwell discrete graphics controller. It also offers an optional media bay that can hold either a third battery or a DVD drive.

Rugged design

Like other devices in Getac's rugged portfolio, the new notebooks are built for harsh settings. They carry MIL-STD-810H, MIL-STD-461G and IP66 ratings, and can withstand drops of 6ft, or 1.8 metres, while in use. Salt fog certification is available as an option.

Getac outlined several use cases for the machines across remote and high-risk operations. In public safety and emergency rescue work, the B360X could serve as a command hub for computer-aided dispatch, geographic information systems and automatic vehicle location software in disaster zones where communications are down.

For military and defence users, the B360X Pro is positioned for training and simulation work in disconnected environments, including workloads that use local AI processing. In utilities and industrial manufacturing, the devices could be used in signal dead zones such as underground pipelines, remote transmission towers and factory blind spots for CAD and 3D modelling tasks.

James Hwang, President, Getac Technology Corporation, said, "The true value of artificial intelligence is not realised in climate-controlled server rooms, but at the absolute edge, where critical decisions shape global safety, defence, and infrastructure. With the B360X and B360X Pro, Getac is tearing down the environmental boundaries of computing. Getac is ushering in a new era of 'Intelligent Resilience', ensuring that those who protect and build our world have uninterrupted access to next-generation AI, regardless of how extreme or disconnected their environment may be. Getac is not just anticipating the future of the rugged industry; we are actively defining it."

Getac operates in more than 100 countries and supplies rugged laptops, tablets, body-worn cameras, in-car video systems and digital evidence products. The Intel Core Ultra X7 processor option is available only on the B360X model.
