Google issues Android event invites

Fri, 19th Oct 2012
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Google has invited press to a scheduled Android event in New York, as speculation increases over the inbound LG Nexus 4.

Sending a letter saying only "The playground is open", the search giant will be holding the event at 10am on Monday October 29.

But as the internet debates the meaning of the invite, some suggesting a game-based launch, most industry figures appear confident the event will be used to introduce the LG Nexus 4 - as reported on French site Le Figaro earlier this month.

Believed to be based on LG's Optimus G device, the product is expected to be accompanied by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates as the company branded the press conference an Android event.

On the same day as Microsoft launches its Windows Phone 8 mobile operation system, most believe the LG Nexus 4 will be the figurehead of the event but some tech websites are suggesting a new Nexus 10 tablet or an Android 4.2.

With Google and Microsoft preparing launches, Apple will beat everyone to the punch during their October 23 event, where they are expected to unveil the new iPad Mini.

Next week looks set to be a massive week in technology so keep in tune on TechDay to follow all the updates and comments.
