GoPro announces HERO13 Black & HERO cameras with new features

Thu, 5th Sep 2024

In a recent announcement, GoPro has revealed the addition of two new cameras to its lineup: the HERO13 Black and the HERO. The HERO13 Black is priced at NZD $749, while the smaller HERO is available for NZD $379.

The new HERO13 Black model comes equipped with several advanced features. The camera records video in 5.3K at 60 frames per second and includes professional-level Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) HDR video capabilities. This model also features the new 13x Burst Slo-Mo, redesigned Enduro battery with a 10% larger capacity, faster WiFi 6 technology, and more customisable auto-tuning settings. GPS integration and performance stickers add additional functionality, allowing users to track speed, path, terrain, altitude, and g-force. This camera also introduces new creative tools such as four HB-Series lenses, each engineered for distinct functionalities including ultra-wide POV, macro shots, anamorphic cinematography, and ND filters for cinematic motion blur.

Nicholas Woodman, Founder and CEO of GoPro, commented on the launch, "HERO13 Black features four new interchangeable lens mods that HERO13 automatically detects and adjusts its settings for, magnetic latch mounting, GPS, and a more powerful battery that provides longer runtimes and improved thermal performance."

The HB-Series Lenses are notable for their compatibility with GoPro-patented HyperSmooth stabilisation. These lenses are waterproof and scratch-resistant with hydrophobic coatings, offering a range of creative possibilities. The Ultra Wide Lens Mod, for instance, provides a 177-degree field of view, while the Macro Lens Mod allows for variable focus on nearby and distant objects. The Anamorphic Lens Mod and a set of ND filters are also among the new offerings, aimed at delivering specialised visual effects.

In addition, the HERO13 Black is equipped with a redesigned battery that offers extended runtimes across all weather conditions and improved thermal performance, supporting up to 1.5 hours of continuous recording in the highest resolution settings.

Meanwhile, the new HERO camera weighs only 86 grams and is designed as GoPro’s smallest and simplest device to date. It features a 4K resolution, an intuitive touch screen, one-button control, and is rugged enough to be waterproof up to 16 feet. The camera is designed to appeal to both new and experienced users, offering quality image captures and 2x Slo-Mo mode in a compact, user-friendly package.

Woodman added, "And then there’s HERO, the smallest, lightest 4K GoPro ever with a screen that will appeal to new and experienced users with its rugged, ultralight design and impressive 4K image quality."

Both cameras are available for preorder. The HERO13 Black will also be offered in various bundles, including the HERO13 Black Creator Edition, which comes with accessories such as the Volta Power Grip, Media Mod, and Light Mod, and is priced at NZD $1129.99. The launch also includes the introduction of new magnetic latch and ball joint mounts, enhancing the ease of changing mounts and angles.

The GoPro Quik app, compatible with both models, offers features like automatic highlight video creation, editing tools, and unlimited cloud storage. Customers opting for a Premium or Premium+ GoPro subscription can access additional perks through the app.

With these new additions, GoPro aims to cater to a varied audience, from professional content creators to casual users seeking a simple yet powerful device for everyday use. Both cameras and associated accessories will be available for purchase soon.
