Hitachi Data Systems acquires BlueArc

Thu, 8th Sep 2011
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has purchased high-performance network storage specialists BlueArc for an undisclosed sum.

Kevin Eggleston, senior vice president and general manager Asia Pacific for HDS, says the acquisition will enable the companies to better serve the cloud technology needs of their customers.

"Asia Pacific has been the fastest-growing region for Hitachi Data Systems," Eggleston says, "and this market has shown particular interest in the adoption of cloud technologies.

"The combination of BlueArc and Hitachi Data Systems storage and cloud technologies will lead to a powerful solution that enables enterprises in Asia Pacific to transform their data centers into information centres.

BlueArc develops systems for storing and managing unstructured data, an area HDS is pinpointing for growth as businesses are faced with the challenge of storing larger and larger data sets.
